Oprah Winfrey: Obama is victim of racism; racists ‘just have to die’

Oprah Winfrey made several racially-charged statements during a BBC interview Friday while promoting her recent film, “The Butler.”

The BBC’s Will Gompertz asked Winfrey if racism is still a contemporary issue.

“It’s gotten better,” she said. “Are there still places where people are terrorized because of the color of their skin, because of the color of their black skin? Yes. But there are laws that have allowed us to progress beyond what we saw in the Scottsboro [case] and beyond even the prejudice we see in ‘The Butler.’”

Gompertz asked Winfrey if she thought the problem of racism was solved.

“Of course, the problem is not solved,” the actress said. “As long as there are people who still, there’s a whole generation – I say this, you know, I said this, you know, for apartheid South Africa, I said this for my own, you know, community in the South – there are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die.”

If President Obama weren’t an African-American, Gompertz asked, would he be treated differently?

Winfrey mentioned the time when U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., called Obama a liar while the president was delivering a speech to Congress.

“Just the level of disrespect,” she said. “When the senator yelled out, ‘You’re a liar.’ Remember that? Yeah, I think that there is a level of disrespect for the office that occurs, and that occurs in some cases, and maybe even many cases, because he’s African-American.”

racist must die? so I take it that oprah will lead by example and be the first to go, folllowed closely by obumbles the clown, his wife michael and holder

    • lovinspoonful

Obama is not a victim of racism. He is a racist and other people are victims of his racism. If racists must die – then she goes, Holder goes, Obama goes, Jackson goes, Sharpton goes. Who cares what Oprah thinks anyway. What A stupid comment to make. she no longer has a dhow so now you taker to the stre4ets to show her racism.

      • Judy Preyer Merz

very, very true. some of most racist people I have listened to.

  • joe cartwright

I have found through my life. That most of the time, when anybody cries racist, is in fact the racist…

  • Kathy

I have never been a fan of Oprah!! The only racists I see anymore are the black thugs killing white people in almost all of our big cities. She is showing her lack of intelligence when she talks about conservatives being racist. I think someone needs to teach Oprah some truth about history. Without the conservatives, Oprah would not be a billionaire!!

  • schmidtp61

I believe that if Obama weren’t black he never would have been elected and Hillary would probably be president right now. Oprah is an idiot.

    • Russ Henry

So we would have a spineless, lying, white female pres. who is a communist instead of a spineless, lying, half white – half black male pres. who is a communist …

  • mcdonnal

    She is an overbearing hypocrite.

  • dba_vagabond_trader

Places where blacks are terrorized due to their skin color? In America, really? Name them, because first thing I thought of was all the no go zones for caucasians. Jews as well. Obama was elected by white Americans, twice. Kind of cancels out your truthiness Oprah.

btw bho is a liar, sorry if it hurts your feelings.

When did calling a liar out become a racist action? Unless of course she is implying that those of her entire race are liars? As far as I can understand society one person being called anything from hero to “ho” doesn’t automatically apply to anyone else. I really believe the Conservatives should do a series of Obama video clips with all his lies, followed by a quick cut to Wilson’s comment between each lie for next year’s campaign.

As for Oprah, she is immaterial, irrelevant, and irritating.

Very good point! They sure get upset when people dare to point out the obvious, which as you said, “calling out a liar”! The worse part, the man has no ethics and flaunts his “untruthfulness”! I’m surprised that anyone (with half-a-brain) that voted for him, sees anything in him that is redeeming? If I was Oprah, think I would keep my thoughts to myself, could be bad for business.

  • Donna E Turner

She lives in a 40 room mansion us racists bought for her.

  • Jane Sherry Gardner

Obama was called a liar because he is a liar. He wasn’t called a black liar. And you know about lying, Oprah .. outright lying .. like you did about the Hermes store clerk in Switzerland. You and Barack Obama are both liars.

Another good point! As Jack said, “you can’t handle the Truth”!!!!!!!!!!
