Navy SEALS ordered to remove ‘Don’t Tread On Me’ symbol from uniforms

jack

A new U.S. Navy directive mandates that SEALs replace the traditional “Don’t Tread On Me” Navy Jack on the sleeves of their uniforms with the American flag.

The original Navy Jack was made up of 13 horizontal stripes — seven red and six white. A rattlesnake was later added diagonally across the flag, along with the words, “Don’t Tread On Me,” on the lowest white stripe.

More recently, the jack was replaced with white stars on a field of blue, with the number of stars representing states in the union, like the American flag.

After the 9/11 attacks, all U.S. Navy ships of war were ordered to return to the traditional “Don’t Tread On Me” rattlesnake design for the duration of the “war on terror.”

The jack, flown on the bow of the ship, is the first identifying insignia seen by an approaching ship. The message is loud and clear: I’m an American warship — don’t tread on me.

Navy SEALs follow the same directive — until now, according to The Daily Caller, which reported that the following email was sent to SEAL team members on Oct. 22:

ALL:

WARCOM and GROUP TWO/ONE have pushed out the uniform policy for NWU III and any patches worn on the sleeve.

All personnel are only authorized to wear the matching “AOR” American Flag patch on the right shoulder. You are no longer authorized to wear the “Don’t Tread On Me” patch.

Again the only patch authorized for wear is the American flag on the right shoulder. Please pass the word to all.

Thanks.

America’s naval history, resolve and battle cry are embodied in the “Don’t Tread On Me” motto. After Japan’s Dec. 7, 1941, sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto reportedly said, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

What Japan actually did was tread on a dozing rattlesnake — one that struck back with a terrible ferocity. That is our heritage.

When he asked why the flag was changed, one SEAL said he was told, “The Jack is too closely associated with radical groups,” The Caller reported.

When military resolve is infected with political correctness, the battle is lost.

This story is not accurate. The MCPON recently passed guidance governing how military patches are to be worn on the NWU Type-IIIs. Many personnel within the Navy, not just SEALs, were wearing different types of patches and uniformity was an issue. This was not about politics; this was about uniformity.

THE MCPO is a idiot! Then again the Navy I retired from is a thing of the past.

no one i served with during the Cold War would sign up today. would you? The American people are not worthy of my sacrifice.

I regret thinking this considering the pain and agony our fathers endured. But the US is far from what they had in mind

        • billjcanada

The short answer to your question is no.
          I concur with you.

        • Carol

Our son doesn’t feel that way at all. While I’ll admit that the National Guard is not the same thing as going into the regular services, this is something he takes a great deal of pride in. He loves his country, and feels there is still hope for her. I love that about him, and it actually rubs off on me too. I like that.

        • Gary Esslinger

same here for this cold war Navy Vet!

Really heart breaking to hear that. No doubt, this country has been overun by some of the most hardcore radical, ungodly wh-res of doom, who hate everything freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness stands for, pertaining to all functions of society, whether economic, social, political , private life, business, etc. Obama is truly an evil and vile cockroach, definitely fits the mold of the Antichrist in the Bible…VERY CLOSE. Is he? I cant say…ill say this much, he is AN antichrist. As for THE antichrist, remains to be seen. But we havent had a president since JFK (and a little with Reagan, until NWO Daddy Bush tried to kill him or send a warning, and he was a puppet the rest of the way) Obama comes from the Saul Alinsky/Bill Ayers school of radical hardcore social engineering, class warfare, terrorism, guerrilla tactic style false flags, and using the welfare system to leverage out the country until it capsize. Its all a plan. He is a pathological liar that wraps himself up in this fake liberalism bs, with his bogus peace prize. I mean, give me an effing break, can it get more ridiculous?

But i totally agree, the american people, too many of them, are in a drug-induce, medicated, and socially engineered, propagandized state-of-mind. Too many arent worth sacrificing your lives for, and one day, theyll wish they heeded the warnings, rather than staying uneducated and mindless zombies to whats going on around them.

Nevertheless, i salute all of you for whatever services you gave to this once great nations. You are all heroes and made a commitment to something that not many men of the world can do.

I totally agree. There is no way I would want to serve in today’s Navy. I am glad I retired before Obama became the Commander in Chief.

  • disqus_GYXQ8Ms8Zk

obama should adhere to this also by not using his personal logo!!!

  • doubleducks

Next Obama will make the Seals wear skirts into combat.

    • Joe Bracce

If they are allowed to go on the offensive. But maybe it will only be the new ‘Seal-ettes’ since the Obummer regime is all out on the offensive to destroy the American Fighting Man.

    • Julie A

Yes and their new patch will be a rainbow.

  • Michael Rhodes Autry

dunno why this is happening, but I do know that political correctness is just a method of bullying folks into the way you want them through policies rather than war.

  • maintmech2

I’m surprised they weren’t ordered to wear the gay rainbow flag on their uniforms. I’m sure that will be a requirement in the future.

  • sroysr

why redact the senior enlisted advisor’s name?

    • John S. Gillette

mo big deal, if you know what you are doing, you can probably find out the name. Although with SEALS it’s probably a little bit harder. Then again if you really want to send a nastygram over displeasure with the way he does thing personally to the MCPO of a SEAL unit, don’t forget to include your contact info too. I’m sure he’d like to discuss it in person over a beer or two.

      • sroysr

my point was that by shielding the person responsible for this nonsense we allow it to continue.

  • JoeGoldner

Obama wants this done because it reminds him of the Tea Party and of course he hates anything American

  • Gary Ross Calvert

Uniformity? Bull. Is everyone or no one going to be allowed to wear the ribbons they’ve earned or the years of service hash marks, or the differing officer/enlisted uniforms, or the scrambled eggs on the hat bill? Will everyone or no one be allowed glasses?

I’m sorry, but this is an attack on the “Don’t Tread On Me” statement of our history. It is associated with the Tea Party (original and reborn 200+ years later), not radicals. It has a history with the Navy and the country we once were and need to be again.

Progressivism just keeps stepping on American tradition. By action progressives inherently demoralize the masses to control the masses. The only way socialism can grow in a free STATE. Been that way trough history.
