Liberal radio host: Military death benefits should not be paid during shutdown

Talk radio host and liberal political commentator Bill Press remarked on his show Thursday that the survivors of slain military service members should not be paid death benefits while the federal government is in shutdown, as it prejudices those “things that come up — pop up and get a lot of media attention” over other other government programs.

“When you shut down the government, a lot of great things are not going to get done,” Press said, according to the Washington Free Beacon. “And why should we make an exception for those that just happen to pop up and get a lot of media attention?” http://freebeacon.com/liberal-radio-host-says-death-benefits-to-military-families-should-not-be-paid-during-shutdown/

Press mentioned that programs that have been cut as a result of the shutdown include the Center for Disease Control seasonal flu prevention and the Occupational Safety and Health inspections. One program not cut was tweeted by former Congressman Allen West:

Press was chair of the California Democratic Party from 1993 to 1996.
