Biden calls park ranger who blocked vets: ‘I’m proud of you’

Vice President Joe Biden praised a park ranger standing guard over the World War II memorial for denying visiting veterans access Tuesday.

The vice president tweeted on Thursday:

Biden’s call came in response to an exchange between the ranger and U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, who objected to keeping veterans from the park.

“How do you look at them and … deny them access?” Neugebauer asked the ranger in a video recorded by NBC Washington. “The Park Service should be ashamed of themselves.”

Others have come to the park ranger’s defense, including a government employee who tweeted:

Degerman attracted her own supporters, according to these tweets:

An online petition calling for Neugebauer to apologize to the park ranger launched at Change.org, has garnered just over 2,000 signatures.
