Dr. Ben Carson’s encounter with IRS after Prayer Breakfast speech

Renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson revealed Monday night that he has something in common with conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status — he became a target of the Internal Revenue Service.

Carson, who recently retired from Johns Hopkins University, where he served as director of pediatric neurosurgery, appeared as a co-keynote speaker with former Gov. Mike Huckabee at a Montgomery, Ala., event, according to this photo tweeted by YellowHammer News’ Cliff Sims:

Carson became an overnight political sensation when, at the National Prayer Breakfast in February, he criticized a number of subjects near and dear to Barack Obama’s heart, including political correctness, Obamacare, deficit spending, wealth redistribution and progressive taxation, while the president was seated not 20 feet away.

Carson said that shortly after that speech, he received his first visit from an IRS agent. Sims tweeted:

Carson touched on a number of subjects at Monday’s event, including business’s place in society (“not to support the government”) and the chances of the GOP beating Hillary Clinton in a presidential showdown (“easy … Benghazi”), all delivered in a low-key style.
