Obama waives ban on arming terrorists, Glenn Beck calls for impeachment

Conservative talk radio host Glenn Beck has made some outlandish statements in the past, but he has never called for President Obama’s impeachment – until now.

Beck asked on Tuesday why no one was discussing treason or impeachment in light of the president’s decision to waive restrictions under a federal law that prohibits arming terrorists.

“Just so we are all clear on this, let me read Article 3, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution about treason,” Beck said. “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.”

Obama waived a provision of federal law “designed to prevent the supply of arms to terrorist groups,” according to the Washington Examiner.

The move cleared the way to allow the United States to give military assistance to “vetted” opposition groups fighting Syrian President al-Bashar Assad.

National Security Council spokesman Caitlin Hayden issued a statement on the action, according to the Washington Examiner:

“This action will allow the U.S. Government to provide or license, where appropriate, certain non-lethal assistance inside or related to Syria. This includes: 1) chemical weapons-related personal protective equipment to international organizations, including the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, for the conduct of their operations; 2) chemical weapons-related life-saving assistance for organizations implementing Department of State or U.S. Agency for International Development programs to strengthen local Syrian health care providers’ ability to prepare for and respond to any use of chemical weapons; and 3) defensive chemical weapons-related training and personal protective equipment to select vetted members of the Syrian opposition, including the Supreme Military Council, to protect against the use of chemical weapons. This action is part of longstanding and ongoing efforts to provide life-saving chemical weapons-related assistance to people in need in Syria.”

“This president, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and John Boehner, and anyone else who stands for giving aid and comfort, military support to al-Qaida in Syria, should be impeached,” Beck said. “Notice there’s Republicans and Democrats, so it’s clearly not about party.”

Beck said that Obama could waive the law if there was an immediate threat to the United States, but in a CNN interview, the president made it clear that wasn’t the case.

“He’s taking guns away from the people while giving guns to al-Qaida,” Beck said. “What else do you need for impeachment?”
