The wife of legendary rocker Ted Nugent had the unfortunate fate to have encountered a Transportation Security Agent at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport who actually did his job — and he found a firearm in her carry-on luggage.
Shemane Ann Nugent, 51, was taken into custody, and “the rest of it is working its way through our system of legal approval,” confirmed DFW airport spokesman David Magana following the discovery of thew firearm according to the Dallas News.
Shemane possesses a concealed carry permit, and the incident was referred to as an “honest mistake” by her attorney, David Finn. She’d worked late the night before and either “completely forgot or never knew the weapon was in her bag.”
“She is very embarrassed. She’s never been in this situation before,” said Finn. “She has expressed remorse for any inconvenience for any public safety officials.”
Shemane, who has been married to Ted Nugent since 1989, has no criminal record whatsoever.
The Dallas News reported:
Ted Nugent, a staunch supporter of gun rights, made headlines earlier this year when he criticized President Obama on his views on gun control.
Guns are allowed in checked luggage, but not on planes. Through July, security found 57 guns in carry-on bags at D/FW Airport. The airport ranks second behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to a Transportation Security Administration spokesman. George Bush Intercontinental Airport ranks third, and Dallas Love Field comes in at No. 12.
The next time I fly anywhere, I hope Mrs. Nugent is on the same plane — I’ll feel a lot safer.
