Conservative groups launch massive campaign to ‘Remember the Benghazi 4′

“Some ran to the sound of the guns, while others ran to bed.”

That’s the message former Rep. Allen West and a coalition of conservative groups want Americans to remember as the anniversary approaches of the terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi that killed an American ambassador and three members of his staff almost a year ago, on Sept. 11, 2012, in Libya.

benghaziobamaclintonThe groups are launching a social-media campaign – Remember the Benghazi 4 — that was trending early Friday on  Twibbon, and the coalition is asking conservative groups, individual activists, and anyone who cares about getting to the truth of the Benghazi attacks to get involved by visiting www.rememberbenghazi4.com and follow the instructions from there.

The campaign is demanding an accounting from the administration for its neglect of the deteriorating security surrounding the Benghazi facility in the months leading up to the attack; its inability or unwillingness to act while the attack was under way and – most egregiously – covering up its own deadly incompetence with a shifting series of stories designed to protect the political ambitions of a commander-in-chief who failed in the ultimate command responsibility.

“To this day, Congress and the media have failed to hold the Obama administration fully accountable for its failures leading up to, during, and after this deadly assault,” Remember the Benghazi 4 groups stated in a news release.

“The administration’s perpetually changing narrative deserves merciless scrutiny, and President Obama must be held accountable for what he has cynically dismissed as a ‘phony scandal.’”

The scandal isn’t “phony,” no matter what message the administration and its lapdog press is peddling today.

And the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Information Management Officer Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were very real.

Groups involved in helping the campaign include Let Freedom Ring, the Center for Military Readiness, the Center for Security Policy, Veterans for a Strong America, Judicial Watch, Concerned Women for America, Constituting America, Tea Party Patriots, Secure America Now, ACT! for America, Franklin Center’s Citizen Watchdog, the Gatestone Institute, The Conservative Caucus, Special Operations Speaks, Emerging Corruption and Christians for a Sustainable Economy.

Conservative leaders who have pledged their support to the cause include West, Dan Bongino, Laura Ingraham, Hugh Hewitt, Lars Larson, Monica Crowley, Anita MonCrief, Ginni Thomas, Ann Stone, Brad Thor, John McLaughlin and Kevin Freeman.

“As we begin our march to honor the four Americans who lost their lives on 9/11/12 in Benghazi, let us never forget some ran to the sound of guns, while others ran to bed,” West said in a news release.

You know the story: The men who ran to the sound of the guns are buried now. The man responsible for their lives ran to bed – he had to be in Vegas with Jay Z for a fundraiser the next day.

And two months later, America re-elected him president for four more years – a year for each man who died in Benghazi.

After nearly a year of investigations, hearings and reports, there is little mystery surrounding the Benghazi attacks:

    1. The Benghazi outpost was not an embassy or a consulate, nor was it even registered with the host country. It was a CIA clandestine operation recovering arms in post-war Libya. Ambassador Stevens previously ran this operation out of a Benghazi hotel. The 13-acre compound had multiple security upgrades in the months before the attack. Commanding General Ham and General Dempsey, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff testified that Ambassador Stevens himself, likely due to the secrecy of the operation, turned down multiple offers of an increased military presence at the outpost.

    2. There was no 7-hour attack in Benghazi. There were two separate attacks 1-1/2 miles and 6 hours apart. Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith died from smoke inhalation from the building being set ablaze within 15 minutes in the first attack. The first response force launched within 25 minutes. The second attack was an 11-minute mortar attack on the CIA base. Two of our soldiers — one each from two of the the three responding Global Response Staff (GRS) forces — were killed while bravely manning a heavy machine gun atop the base during the rescue and evacuation operation. These losses alone prove that there was no “stand down.” One GRS force responded from nearby, another GRS force responded from Tripoli in the C-130 that would be used in the evacuation, and another moved to the Tripoli airport to receive the wounded and other surviving personnel. These forces reinforced the Diplomatic Security Services (DSS) force at the outpost, contract security provided by the British Blue Mountain Group, members of the 17th of February Brigade (whose barracks were within the compound), Libyan Shield forces, and members of the Libyan military.

    3. The President and the Secretary of State were fully engaged in responding to the Benghazi attacks. President Obama was visiting wounded veterans at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda when the attack began. When word reached Washington, President Obama was briefed by National Security Advisor Tom Donilon. The President then met with his Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They later testified that the President ordered the immediate deployment of all necessary forces in response to the attack. The Chairman further testified that the White House was fully engaged with the Military Command Center for the duration of the attacks. The White House later released a photo showing the President meeting well into the evening with his National Security Team including the Vice President, the National Security Advisor, the Deputy National Security Advisor, and his Chief of Staff. At 10 pm, the President conferred with Secretary Clinton who had personally given the order to evacuate and who had been coordinating with the CIA director. White House records indicate that the President relocated to the residence no earlier than 12:05 am, at which time all hostilities had ended, more than 30 Americans had been safely evacuated, and the Libyan military — in approximately 50 vehicles — was escorting the U.S. personnel to the airport. The next morning the President continued to meet with his National Security Team and other agency representatives. He later traveled to the State Department to console the grieving colleagues of Stevens and the other Americans. The President addressed the American public later that day, calling Benghazi an “act of terror.” Aboard Air Force One, he would later talk by phone to Ambassador Stevens’ parents and Sean Smith’s widow. He again called the incident an “act of terror” in Nevada and Colorado where he turned prescheduled campaign events into tributes to our lost heroes.

    4. The anti-Islam propaganda video, in fact, was conclusively linked to protests, riots and attacks on more than 50 U.S. facilities in more than 20 nations. The link between the Benghazi attacks and the video came, not from the Obama Administration, but from multiple intelligence reports, eyewitness reports, statements from Libyan officials and news reports including interviews with the attacking militants and protesters at the outpost. They talked, not about 9/11 or al Qaeda, but about the video. Nevertheless, the Administration was clear that it made no difference what their motive was — there was no excuse for the violence against our people.

    5. There was indeed much classified information surrounding the Benghazi outpost as it was a CIA clandestine operation — one with bipartisan oversight by the House and Senate Intelligence Committees. There was, however, no “cover up.” The President never hung a “Mission Accomplished” banner proclaiming an end to the war on terror. To the contrary, the President, on the night bin Laden was killed, specifically told the American people that al Qaeda would continue to try and attack us. There was no motive to hide the involvement of extremist militants in the attacks on the outpost and such information was fully made public by the Administration.

    • Jim Ward is wrong

Jim ward, If this “story” of yours is true… why the cover up?? why are CIA agents being told not to speak of Benghazi? WHy are CIA agents being given like detector tests to see if they have spoken to anyone?? Keep drinking that Kool-aid

      • StuckInCali2Long

They were running weapons to Syrian rebels.

        • Jim Ward

Now that all the other right wing conspiracies — that there was a stand down ordered, that the President was MIA on the night of the attacks, that the Administration did not call it a terrorist attack, etc., etc. — have all been debunked, partisans are circling back to the CIA involvement to concoct a new but equally phony “scandal.”

But news reports just days after the attacks — and even some before the attacks — revealed the nature of this mission.

In an interview with ABC News a month before the attack that killed him, “Glen Doherty, the 42-year-old former Navy SEAL who worked as a contractor with the State Department, said he personally went into the field to track down so-called MANPADS, shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles, and destroy them. After the fall of dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the State Department launched a mission to round up thousands of MANPADS that may have been looted from military installations across the country. U.S. officials previously told ABC News they were concerned the MANPADS could fall into the hands of terrorists, creating a threat to commercial airliners.”

“Doherty said that he traveled throughout Libya chasing reports of the weapons and once they were found, his team would destroy them on the spot by bashing them with hammers or repeatedly running them over with their vehicles.”

Christopher Stevens arrived on a cargo ship during the Libyan civil war. He helped organize the militias and other forces fighting Qaddafi — the terrorist dictator behind the Lockerbie bombing that killed 189 Americans. President Reagan called Qaddafi the “Mad Dog of the Middle East.” Stevens was able to foster a very fragile alliance between competing militias during the civil war and in post-war Libya. This balance was drastically upset — perhaps purposely in a psyops action during a presidential campaign — by the anti-Islam propaganda video that was widely televised and otherwise distributed throughout the Mideast just days before the attacks.

      • Jim Ward

There is no cover up. There has been nearly a year of investigations, hearings, testimony and reports.

You really want to debate why CIA employees are required to keep classified information, methods and identities classified? At any rate, a team of FBI investigators and lab technicians had full access to surviving personnel at Ramstein Air Force Base days after the attacks. Furthermore, the Accountability Board investigators had full access to the surviving personnel.

Sources include major media, especially Associated Press (AP); Wikipedia; Senate and House Congressional testimony and reports; Accountability Review Board investigation and Reports; and books including “Benghazi: The Definitive Report” and “Under Fire: Benghazi.”

    • StuckInCali2Long

Yes, they are trying to keep the details secret because apparently the CIA was running guns to Syria. So if they make the story as confusing as possible then the Left won’t pay attention to that. What we do know for sure is Americans lost their lives that day and our “leader” didn’t lift a finger or even give an OK to fight back. The details surrounding the lost lives are not important. They died and no one was there for them. That’s all that matters.

This is wounderful but no one has gone to jail over this. It is not even on the front page of a newspaper. I want to know when this congress and Obama going to get to the bottom of this and punish those who did this. Shows and telling us what went on and this and that is blah blah blah blah do something and stop the pomp and ass show.

  • AmazedHuman

Well, none of us out here, conservative or not, are forgetting Benghazi. Obama should be impeach and Hillary jailed. And until the proper action has been implemented to take those responsible for the 4 tortured, murdered Americans out of action, it will remain our battle cry. Washington and the media’s inability to do what’s right for America is treasonous and against all that America stands for.

    • Jim Ward

The only wrongdoing in Benghazi was done by the attacking militants and looters. There was no stand down, nobody was tortured, the President and Secretary Clinton were fully engaged for the duration of the attacks, and three Global Response Staff (GRS) forces — the first launching within 25 minutes — took part in a rescue operation that led to as many as 100 of the attacking militants being killed in battle, the bodies of our 4 dead secured, and more than 35 Americans being evacuated and safely airlifted out of Libya in hours.

The President called it an “act of terror” from day one, Rice and other officials described it as being perpetrated by well-armed extremists with possible ties to all Qaeda, and the anti-Islam propaganda video has been conclusively linked to this attack, as well as protests, riots and attacks on more than 50 U.S. facilities in more than 20 nations. Nevertheless, President Obama, Secretary Clinton and other Administration officials made it clear that it made no difference what there motives were — there was no excuse for attacking our people. None.

      • DeeBar

Jim , Have you been in the service of any kind ? Can you and your buddy here explain why there wasn’t any cover for these folks ? Too many have come forth and said that there was time to rescue or at the very least show a presence and one was the Commander of this very theater .
We leave no one behind to be slaughtered . We never did without a bonafide try . I’ve been there and we succeeded with a minimal loss .
This is great for moral , get into trouble fight your way out ! What a bunch of nonsense !
Show me the proof as you keep offering it .

        • Jim Ward

Have you ever been in the CIA? The Benghazi outpost, like the Libyan action overall, was largely a CIA operation coordinating numerous militias in overthowing the terrorist Qadaffi regime and recovering MANPADS and other arms in post-war Libya. As such, the CIA provided the bulk of the security, the respondit was ng forces consisted of CIA patamilitary teams, and the CIA controlled the initial information.

Commanding General Carter Ham, in fact, testified that he considered, but did not deem appropriate or subsequently request the deployment of fighter aircraft. He further testified that no such request was made by those on the ground. Ham and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staffs further testified that I

The CIA did not, in fact, seek military assistance (although military commandos based in Tripoli did join the responding Global Response Staff (GRS) forces.)

CIA paramilitary forces operated in Benghazi as they did throughout Libya during the civil war — and as they have operated globally in “secret” wars for decades. A minimal number of CIA paramilitary operatives use local armies and militias as “force extenders” to fight our battles. It is this same schema that describes the response in Benghazi.

          • DeeBar

No CIA but a ton of military . What you’re saying is pure crap . You’re telling us that there were no appeals for help ? Hicks testified otherwise and he was #2 .

When this so called demonstration (not) was going on ” because ” of this video you speak of , those in danger were already on the phone pleading for help and had been. But then ‘what difference does it make’ ? The Pentagon had real time info from the get go also explained to the Congress .
I’m fortunate that my call for help happened and I know of no one in Command that would not go on this information . You talk about appropriateness , are you kidding me ? I know of several aircraft pilots that were shot down and a huge effort got underway immediately to rescue them. An Ambassador to the U.S. and Ham says it wasn’t appropriate to send aircraft ? Wasn’t he replaced ? Also the Admiral of the 3rd Carrier Group was going to scramble but told to stand down. By whom ? And he was also replaced . For what ?

Go back to Ocrap and explain that you lost the argument on this site .

          • Jim Ward

Nice try. Intelligence, statements from Libyan officials, eyewitness reports and news reports — including interviews with the armed militants and unarmed protesters at the scene — attest to the fact that the already well-armed militants took action in response to the protests in Cairo over the anti-Islam propaganda video. The Obama Administration indeed made it clear that it made no difference what their motives were and that there was no excuse for the violence against our people.

Study up on the CIA and the use of paramilitary force extenders and you will better understand what happened in Benghazi. Christopher Stevens, not yet an Ambassador, arrived in Libya aboard a cargo ship with the CIA and other personnel in the midst of the civil war. He worked out of a Benghazi hotel and created a very fragile alliance between numerous militias to overthrow the terrorist regime of dictator Gaddafi — who, of course, was linked to the killing of hundreds of Americans. Libya was liberated without the loss of American lives.

The anti-Islam video — linked to protests, riots, and attacks on more than 50 U.S. facilities in 20 nations — was enough to upset this delicate post-war balance and the war-hardened extremists attacked without warning and with minimal planning.

Partisans told us for years that the military hated Clinton and Obama. Now you would have us believe that the military and the CIA ate covering up for them.

Hicks was in Tripoli not Benghazi. And he testified that he was watching TV and ignored multiple calls from Stevens during the initial attack. Site security team leader, Army Lt. Col. S.E. Gibson testified that Hicks was wrong; that his team was not told to stand down; and that they would have arrived in Benghazi after the rescue/evacuation plane was already in the air.

Even the conservative Washington Times reported on June 27 that there was no stand down:

The House Armed Services subcommittee on oversight and investigations. The subcommittee held a classified briefing with Col. Gibson; retired Army Gen. Carter F. Ham, former commander of U.S. Africa Command; and Navy Rear Adm. Brian L. Losey, former commander of U.S. Special Operations Command Africa.

“Contrary to news reports, Gibson was not ordered to ‘stand down’ by higher command authorities in response to his understandable desire to lead a group of three other Special Forces soldiers to Benghazi,” the subcommittee said in a rare statement about a closed-door briefing.

Instead, the site security team was ordered to remain in Tripoli to defend the embassy and its staff in case terrorists also struck in the capital while the Benghazi post was under attack, and to assist the wounded who were being evacuated to Tripoli after the first phase of the fighting had ended, the statement said.

Col. Gibson “acknowledged that, had he deployed to Benghazi, he would have left Americans in Tripoli undefended. He also stated that, in hindsight, he would not have been able to get to Benghazi in time to make a difference, and as it turned out, his medic was needed to provide urgent assistance to survivors once they arrived in Tripoli,” the statement said.

The medic “saved the leg and probably the life” of one of the evacuated personnel, according to Mr. Hicks’ congressional testimony.

          • DeeBar

I watched the hearings but several of your statements I never heard .
Now you mention the CIA and the Military covering for the President ? You don’t think so ? As you know the Generals are sanctioned by the President , hired and fired as is the head of the CIA .
You cite one of the Generals saying there wasn’t time . Pure hogwash as the ex General of that theater testified that there was time and would have scrambled regardless as they didn’t know how long it was going to last . He noted that full after burner would have given them the time .

These are the same people that approved of open gays in the services , allowed Muslims to commit murder because it played into the narrative of Ocrap . You still trust the Generals ? Generals are political animals .

The Patriotic Generals have been fired and those that think it’s better to stand with Ocrap than to speak up are not what we need , just the opposite .

I know senior officers in the Navy and the Air Force and the moral is bad because of this .

I will ask you one more time , where are those references you’re quoting from . You offered . MSNBC and the rest are not references .

You still have not told us what the alleged “lies” were? There certainly was no motive to lie about terrorism. The President told us on the night bin Laden was killed that al Qaeda would continue to try and attack us. He called Benghazi an act of terror the very next day. It can’t be covering up a “stand down” because multiple investigations and reports, and the testimony of military and the CIA all establish that there indeed was no such thing. It can’t be about missing MANPADS because multiple news stories covered that angle even before the attacks — – and even included one of the responding soldiers we lost talking about the operation. Please enlighten us as to what these supposed “lies” are exactly!

      • HadYourChances

Jimmy the survivors haven’t spoke yet dummy, so you are lying too.

        • Jim Ward

Do some research. A team of FBI investigators and lab technicians interviewed the Benghazi survivors at Ramstein Air Force Base three days after the attacks. The transcripts of these interviews have all been presented to Congress. The Accountability Review Board also reported that they had full access to the surviving personnel.

          • HadYourChances

The survivors have not spoken to the press Jimmy. You promote yourself as being very well versed with Benghazi Jimmy. Direct me to the link of the “Survivors” interviews that you claim took place at Ramstein Jimmy, 3 days after the attack. The Accountability Review Board was hand picked by Hillary and included Thomas Pickering who was a member of Bill Clintons Administration for 8 years & a close personal friend of Hillary’s.

“The A.R.B. blamed four of Kennedy’s subordinates for security lapses. But State Department witnesses testified those employees sometimes had little to no responsibility for the poor decisions.”

“On September 10, 2013, Attkisson reported on Twitter that Secretary of State John Kerry “tells [C]ongress he will not honor the request to make Benghazi survivors available for questioning.” Her scoop about Kerry never made it to the air on CBS’s morning and evening newscasts. The following day, CBS Evening News did broadcast a full report on the State Department’s lack of progress in strengthening security at U.S. diplomatic posts since the Benghazi attack, but let the Obama administration and Democratic Senator Robert Menendez hint that congressional Republicans were at fault.”

State Dept. Knew of Benghazi Risk Jim Ward

Well, well. According to an internal government report, an independent panel of experts found the Department of State failed to protect America’s high-risk embassies and consulates despite knowing they were vulnerable. This included the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi, which was the site of a bloody attack on September 11, 2012. The assessment, which visited all high-risk missions, reveals that the State Department failed to identify the problematic conditions, had no matrix for determining threatened posts other than “experience and intuition,” and had no intelligence analyst on staff at the five high-risk facilities. Even after Benghazi, security officials never debriefed survivors to review what went wrong.
