Obama on government: ‘We are doing things right’

Even as he talked about “we the people,” it seemed clear President Obama was more focused on “we the government.”

In a statement Monday, Obama told us that we should not be cynical about government inefficiencies, citing several examples of his administration’s effort to develop new technologies to improve government, the Washington Examiner reported.

Obama stressed that “we have to have the brightest minds to help solve our biggest challenges.” A comment that would have been more convincing had Vice President Joe Biden not been standing next to him as he spoke.

He followed that by offering up his best pitch for big government:

“And in this Democracy, we the people recognize that this government belongs to us and it’s up to each of us and every one of us to make it work better. We can’t just stand on the sidelines.  We can’t take comfort in just being cynical.  We all have a stake in government success — because the government is us.”

The president added “we are doing things right,” as he pointed out that the federal government was “saving lives” by delivering data on health care costs and by tracking weather effectively, according to the Examiner.

Of course, in the case of “doing things right,” Obama is referring to his own administration, even as he conveniently overlooked the handling of the attack on Benghazi, the IRS targeting of tea party groups and the Justice Department secretly investigating journalists.
