After President Obama announced his deep concern over the turn of events in Egypt resulting in a leadership change, a Cairo newspaper delivered a special message to the president.
The Al-Tahrir proclaimed on the front page, “It’s a revolution .. not a coup, Mr. Obama.” To leave no doubt, the otherwise Arabic paper made this announcement in English, according to Business Insider.
The distinction is important in that the Foreign Operations, Export Financing, and Related Programs Appropriations Act provides:
None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available pursuant to this Act shall be obligated or expended to finance directly any assistance to the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree.
The president indicated he was “deeply concerned by the decision of the Egyptian Armed Forces to remove President Morsi and suspend the Egyptian constitution.” The Muslim Brotherhood-backed Morsi regime had been heavily supported by the Obama administration by billions of dollars in financial and military support.
In calling the action a removal by “military forces,” the president carefully avoided use of the term “coup.”
Just in case Al-Tahrir isn’t on the president’s reading list, the Washington Post’s J. Freedom du Lac tweeted the front page to his followers:

While all this was going on, a senior member of the president’s national security team, Secretary of State John Kerry, was enjoying the afternoon in Nantucket Harbor on his yacht.
