What you don’t know about Gitmo will make your blood boil

It’s no secret the U.S. has catered to every whim imaginable of the Guantanamo Bay detainees, but did you know the American flag is not raised where prisoners would be forced to see it?

Did you know that in 2007, prisoners had gotten so chubby from the halal food specially prepared for them that the U.S. ordered treadmills for them to lose weight?

Wait – it gets more incredible.

Did you know that because those treadmills were made in the U.S. – by “infidels” – new treadmills were ordered that were made in “a Muslim part of the world” so the inmates would use them?

So says a new report from author Paul Sperry in the New York Post.

“Gitmo is no longer a prison camp; it’s a state-sponsored madrassa,” Sperry reported in the Sunday article.

Sperry interviewed a Gitmo official who spoke to him on the condition of anonymity.

Guantanamo Bay inmates are “some of the most pampered prisoners on the planet,” the official told Sperry.

The official spoke to Sperry about a 2007 order requisition for the American – “infidel” – made treadmills the inmates ultimately refused to use: “We took all of that s–t out, gave it to the soldiers to use, and bought [the inmates] equipment that was made in a Muslim part of the world.”

According to Sperry’s report, the official told him:

[The official] said [inmates] get as many as four choices of halal meals and have access to a new $750,000 soccer field. Islamic prayer beads and rugs are now “standard issue.” They get their choice of more than 10,000 Islamic books and videos stocked by a Muslim librarian, who also records soccer and Arabic TV for them. They even have their own clerics to preach to them in Arabic.

Everyone gets a Koran, paperback or hardback, along with little hammocks to keep their holy book from touching the ground when not in use.

Guards are prohibited from handling the books. The Muslim librarian is “the only one that’s allowed to touch the Korans anymore, per detainee request,” the official said. “If I went into the Koran room and started rifling through a Koran, I could be fired.”

The demands are seemingly endless, and the detainees threaten “hunger strikes and unrest if they don’t get their way,” Sperry said.

According to Sperry, Gitmo is the most expensive “prison per capita” in the world, at almost $800,000 per prisoner a year. But, the Pentagon is preparing to spend $150 million in new construction on nicer facilities for the prisoners.

“The military already has approved construction projects, including a new $11 million hospital and medical units for detainees, along with a $10 million ‘legal meeting complex,’ where lawyers and human-rights groups can huddle with detainees,” Sperry reported.

But the official explained for Sperry what’s really behind the placating to prisoners.

Sperry wrote:

“I know some in the military leadership who are trying to make things more comfortable [for the detainees], but it’s not really about making the detainees more comfortable,” said the official. “It’s about placating the Beltway and making the p.r. war shift in our direction a little bit.”

“A lot of these programs stem from that,” he added.

These are the people we are force feeding to keep alive because they refuse to eat in protest over their conditions? Absurd.

Sperry reported the Pentagon “declined to comment.”
