The greatest spy-thriller authors in the world would have prepared their heroes for every contingency, including being stuck in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport with a voided passport.

But NSA leaker Edward Snowden is no James Bond, and stuck he is, ala Tom Hanks in the movie, “Terminal.”

Snowden’s passport was annulled over the weekend when the U.S. learned Snowden fled Hong Kong for Moscow.

Without documentation, Snowden is unable to even clear customs, let alone book further travel, Russia Today reported.

“Snowden’s American passport is void and he is not in possession of any other document with which he can prove his identity. For this reason, he has to stay in Sheremetyevo’s transit zone and cannot leave Russia nor buy a ticket,” a source close to Snowden said, according to the article.

A top official from Ecuador’s Foreign Ministry denied giving Snowden any documentation, “such as a passport or a refugee card,” as had been previously suggested, the paper said

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Tuesday that Snowden was indeed in Moscow, but told reporters that Russia would not extradite him to the US.

“We can only extradite any foreign citizens to such countries with which we have signed the appropriate international agreements on criminal extradition,” Russia Today reported Putin said on Tuesday. “Snowden is a free person. The sooner he chooses his final destination, the better it is for him and Russia.

WikiLeaks legal advisor Sarah Harrison is said to have accompanied Snowden on his adventurous run from U.S. justice and espionage charges.

However, “[i]t has been speculated that Snowden, who remains at an undisclosed location within the transit zone, is purposely being held up by Russian security services for interrogation,” RT said.

WikiLeaks has denied that allegation, according to the paper.
