Could Sen. Harry Reid be the next big Dem scandal?

The conviction of a wealthy Nevada developer on Wednesday could prove to be troublesome for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Harvey Whittemore of Reno was found guilty on three counts of making illegal campaign contributions to Reid, but saw a hung jury on the charge of lying to the FBI.

A former lobbyist and political power broker, Whittmore was rumored to have made his fortune through land dealings, aided by political connections. He was found guilty of violating federal campaign finance laws, funneling more than $133,000 in campaign contributions to Reid, and used family and employees as conduits to get it done.

RGJ.com of Reno was at the trial and reported:

Each count carries a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks has declared a mistrial on a count that developer Harvey Whittemore lied to the FBI. Hicks called the jury hopelessly deadlocked. Sentencing set for Sept. 23 for the three counts of making illegal campaign contributions.
