Accused Fort Hood terrorist Hasan wants to be his own lawyer

In the terrorist attack the Obama administration refuses to call a “terrorist attack,”Army Maj. Nidal Hasan wants to represent himself on charges he killed 12 soldiers and a civilian doctor more than three years ago in Fort Hood, Texas.

nidalhasanScreaming “Allahu Akbar,” Hasan opened fire on a group of soldiers who were heading to Iraq in November of 2009. His trial is now set to begin July 1. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Jury selection in the case has been delayed a week while the military judge in the case weighs Hasan’s request, according to a Reuters report.

Even if an attorney were appointed to assist Hasan, his self-representation could mean more openings for him to appeal a conviction, Reuters reported.

That would further drag out the officially designated “workplace violence” case that has already lasted longer than American combat action during the Korean War.
