Jon Stewart suggests excuses for IRS officials: ‘I showed up to work drunk’

Piling on to an already beleaguered IRS, Jon Stewart mocked officials for claiming during their testimony in congressional hearings that they didn’t know what was going on.

Stewart made fun of the fact that those who testified denied knowing anything about the alleged targeting of conservative groups for added scrutiny. Rather than the “I don’t know” that was prevalent throughout the hearings, Stewart had a few suggestions of his own.

“I showed up to work drunk,” Stewart said mockingly. “I don’t know how to read.”

He then went after Lois Lerner for invoking the Fifth Amendment, and took the agency to task for not turning over documents to congress on time. “The IRS missed their filing deadline,” he said.
