Sen. Boxer’s meltdown: Did someone call her ma’am again?

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., let loose at Thursday morning’s Environmental and Public Works Committee meeting that the eight Republican members boycotted. It got so intense, one would have thought someone had called her “ma’am” again.

At issue was the nomination of Gina McCarthy to replace Lisa Jackson to head the Environmental Protection Agency. Jackson resigned her position in December amid an “alias email” scandal, in which she conducted official EPA business using a fake name, apparently to avoid Freedom of Information Act concerns. She announced her departure ostensibly to spend more time with her family.

The GOP senators boycotted the meeting over ongoing transparency concerns which had yet to be addressed, according to the Washington Examiner.

“For too long EPA has failed to deliver on the promises of transparency espoused by President Barack Obama, former Administrator Lisa Jackson, and by Gina McCarthy,” the eight Republicans said in a statement.

“Accordingly, the Republicans on the EPW Committee have asked EPA to honor five very reasonable and basic requests in conjunction with the nomination of Gina McCarthy, which focus on openness and transparency,” they said.

The Examiner reported that:

The eight Republicans are David Vitter, R-La..;  James Inhofe, R-Okla..; John Barrasso, R-Wyo.; Jeff Sessions, R-Ala..; Mike Crapo, R-Idaho; Roger Wicker, R-Miss.; John Boozman, R-Ark.;  and Deb Fischer, R-Neb.

When the committee’s GOP members followed through with their threat, Boxer let loose with a volley of attacks, calling them “obstructionist” and members of “the fringe lane,” according to another Examiner report.
