Jordanians to Obama: We despise you, but thanks for $200 million

President Barack Obama reserved the third day of his Mideast trip Friday for Jordan, and in the spirit of friendship, he promised the country $200 million in aid. The Jordanians were so overcome with joy that they burned the American flag, suggesting the president return home.

Shortly after arriving in Amman, Jordan, Friday evening, the president made a generous offer of goodwill to Jordan in recognition of the work it’s doing for Syrian refugees, according to Politico.

“I want to take this opportunity to make it clear. The United States is committed to the security of Jordan, which is backed by our strong alliance,” Obama said.

Noting that many thousands of Syrian refugees are entering Jordan daily to escape a bloody civil war, the president committed to assisting Jordan with the financial burden of caring for the refugees.

“Today, I’m announcing that my administration will work with Congress to provide Jordan with an additional $200 billion in budget support this year as it cares for Syrian refugees and the Jordanian communities affected by this crisis,” Obama said, according to Politico.

Meanwhile, as the president promised this gift, a Jordanian Islamic leader announced that the president’s visit to Jordan is not “respected or accepted” by Jordanians, according to Ammon News.

The Jordanian Islamist movement organized a demonstration in Ammon Friday evening to punctuate the point.

“What gives Obama the right to ask Palestinians and Arabs to recognize the Jewish state on the land of Palestine?” Ali Abu Sukkar, head of the Muslim Brotherhood’s political arm, the Islamic Action Front’s Shura Council, asked Ammon News.”Palestine belongs to Palestinians and the Arab Ummah.”

“Obama comprehends that most Jordanians despise the American administration’s policies, and rejects U.S. policies biased towards the Zionist entity,” Abu Sukkar told Ammon News during the demonstration.

The Jordanian Islamists then engaged in the now-ritualistic burning of the American flag in front of the U.S. embassy. It wouldn’t be a proper demonstration without it. Judging by the photographs, this flag was homemade.
