NBC gives the queen of smut, Roseanne, a new show

As in any year, the Super Bowl is as much about the commercials as it is about the game of football. In some years, the commercials prove to be more entertaining that the game itself.

With companies paying upward of $4 million for an average 30-second spot, the pressure is on to produce an outstanding commercial that will resonate with the folks. While watching the game Sunday, I was struck with the thought that the advertising industry seems to be running out of ideas.

With the exception of a very few ads — “So God Made a Farmer” being one — the commercials were painful to watch.

It also looks as if Hollywood is struggling to come up with new and refreshing ideas to compete with the huge expansion in entertainment options brought on by today’s technology.

How bad have things gotten? Network executives at NBC are offering the insufferable Roseanne Barr another shot, after three failed attempts to follow up on her one massive hit, “Roseanne,” in the late 1980s. And, in addition to getting the opportunity to produce and star in a show, Barr will also guest star in “The Office,” according to Front Page Magazine.

Perhaps the suits at NBC are encouraged by the thousands of votes the Roseanne Barr/Cindy Sheehan Peace and Freedom Party presidential ticket received in November.

Front Page Magazine’s Ben Shapiro calls Barr “a cultural case of herpes: you think she’s gone, and then she flares up.”

That this “vulgarian” continues to get second chances shows just how left Hollywood is, Shapiro noted.

Pointing to some of the despicable things Barr has done over her career, he said there’s “no shot any actor would be able to utter the sort of monstrous things Roseanne does and get away with it from the right side of the aisle.”

Of course, conservatives know the proper course of action to take in such circumstances: “Click.”
