GOP senators’ efforts fail to keep weapons from Egypt

The article originally listed the Republicans who voted to table the bill which would have prevented sending weapons to Egupt, but has been corrected.

The United States is sending weapons to Egypt while its cities burn. tanks in EgyptThe Senate Thursday voted down a pro-Israel effort that would have banned Muslim Brotherhood-controlled Egypt from getting 20 modern U.S. F-16 warplanes and 200 Abrams tanks. The 19 senators who supported the so-called Rand amendment, trying in vain to prevent an outrageous move to give weapons to an avowed enemy of Israel, were our finest — all Republicans.

Their names are below. Remember them well!

  • Boozman (R-AR)
  • Coats (R-IN)
  • Cornyn (R-TX)

Had anyone answered the questions:  Against whom would these weapons be used? Does Egypt have any threats from outside its borders? Don’t they have enough mayhem within their own nation that has turned that country into a total, ungovernable disaster? And this is the country whom Obama and this group of know-nothings have equipped with the most modern weaponry in our own arsenal? Of course, these armaments will eventually be used against Israel in the near future. Anyone doubting this, just respond with your comments. I’d like to hear what they are.

And where, may I ask, were the voices of Jewish “defense groups,” such as ADL, AIPAC, AJC and the JCPA, in speaking out against this move? Their support for Obama’s selection of Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense was a signal of their commitment to each and every Obama policy.  They are an embarrassment to all who support Israel and freedom in the Middle East. Speak to them with a cessation of your contributions.

All those Real Patriots Representing We The People from the beginning should have attacked President Obama's support of the Muslim Brotherhood. Real Patriots should be speaking out against President Obama's relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood and those he has given positions to in the White House. These are enemies to our Liberties and Freedoms. We the people need to stop picking sides with the elephant and donkey and see if President Obama actions represent what comes out of his mouth. I know some don't like the 2nd. Amendment but it's not up to anyone to pick and choose what they feel is good or bad in the Constitution of the United States and then just as any other dictator get rid of what they don't like. If We The People look at who President Obama aligns himself with, unless some want to lose the Liberties and Freedoms, why would we give him our support. Being the first black President is a great achievement in our country but his actions have been not been in line with our Constitution and he's supported enemies of both Israel and the United States, weakening us both. The Muslim Brotherhood wants

to dismantle our Constitution and make sharia the law of the land. God Bless all Real Freedom Fighting Patriots.

    • LeftiesAreDopes

      Also missing Ted Cruz? sigh.

  • Jason Odom

How come I don't see Marco Rubio's name either….wonder how he voted?

  • Frank

I believe that was a treaty supposedly signed or agreed upon in 2010, when Pres. Hosni Mubarak was still in power. The "Muslim Brotherhood" was not in control at that time. We should not be held to that contract and I hope that congress is voting that down. The congressional delegation from Idaho would have voted against that issue.

And now we have a list of the groups who really have no clue about what is going on in the Middle East and how it affects Israel and the world at large: "And where, may I ask were the voices of Jewish “defense groups,” such as ADL, AIPAC, AJC and the JCPA in speaking out against this move? Their support for the Obama selection of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense was a signal of their commitment to each and every policy of President Obama. They are an embarrassment to all who support Israel and freedom in the Middle East. Speak to them with a cessation of your contributions."

What a bunch of fools, huh? Must be information deprived or just not smart. So, I guess none of them should be supported any longer. Who, then, really knows what it best in all cases for Israel? The voters who suggested Netanyahu tone it down?

So goes this once great country down the drain.

Now that we've tossed up the numbers and types of equipment that is being shipped to Egypt, lets look at the deal a little further. The F-16 fighters they are receiving are export models. If you sat one of these being sent to Egypt next to the ones that Israel flies, they are almost not even the same plane. Their radars and intercept capabilities are different. I'll bet their engines don't even have the same afterburner and peformance features. The training of the Egyptian pilots is also completely different, even though, WE train them. The Israelis get many many more flight hours, courtesy of our dime, than the Egyptians will ever get. Israeli pilots would knock them down two or three at a time.

Now, for the tanks. The M1A1 Abrams is also not the same one the Israelis get. Targeting acquisition and tracking capability will be a lot less. These tanks will also not have some of the special Israel supplies electronics that the Israeli M1s have. If it ever came to a land battle, not likely, by the way, the Israelis could add them to their own inventory a lot faster than those T64s and T72s that were used in 1973.

Most important of the things not mentioned is that WE, the United States, has trained the majority of the Egyptian Military since 1973. I think this trained discipline, that we have supplied, has been a major reason that the Egyptian Army has not acted against the civilian population directly. What you see working against demonstators are the special police that are a domestic product.

As far as Egypt being an avowed enemy of Israel, they still have diplomatic relations. They are still trying to solve their problems diplomatically. A war would be bad for Egypt, but would be a disaster for Israel, especially if all the Arab armies got coordinated. Too many of them, to little of Israel. The Brotherhood can spout all the rhetoric they want. The Egyptian People want democracy, that's why they are still demonstating.

I have to laugh at someone commenting about what "Real Patriots" will do or not do. "Real Patriots" would read the Constitution, vote, and keep themselves well informed, not jump blindly at meaningless numbers like some export military equipment, before they know what they are talking about. Its not just my opinion, its what we, as citizen rely on to help govern our great country. Panic and ignorance are the real enemies. Just saying…
