The current increases in minimum wage rates are minimal and will have little effect beyond the already artificailly high rates in effect.. The real problem with minimum wages is that they prevent the unskilled from getting a job; it prevents them from getting on that first step of the ladder to become self-supporting adults. It also limits teenagers from having work opportunities in summer and part time during high school. Those jobs helped many of us learn to be good employees and learn about business which was as important as the subjects we were learning at school. They distort the free market place in so many ways but career pols use them to attract votes from the uninformed voters (aka the moron vote).
