Orlando, Florida is ground zero today for a statewide summit being held for tea party movement leaders. Tea party groups from Naples to Jacksonville are represented, with more than sixty leaders in attendance.
The focus for the day is preparing for the upcoming elections. Organizations such as the Abigail Adams Project and the Precinct Project will be sharing information on how the grassroots leaders can be most effective in their efforts leading up to and including election day.
The event was organized by Tom Gaitens, of FreedomWorks, and represents the second such conference that has been held in Orlando. Gaitens has been leading an informal group here in Florida called the ‘Sons & Daughters of Liberty’ , which provides a means of communication for the various tea party organizations. The Sons & Daughters group includes participants from Tea Party Patriots, 9/12 Project, DC Works For Us and other loosely affiliated groups.
Today’s effort is a true grassroots endeavor, being pulled off on a shoestring budget with all participants volunteering their time. An endeavor that clearly flies in the face of the frequent charges by the left that the tea party movement is, in reality, astro-turf.
It’s important to point out that this effort is not associated with the Florida Tea Party political party, which does not have the support of the state’s tea party leaders. Most, if not all present, feel the FTP is a threat to the critical success needed in the fall.
Jason Hoyt, of the Tea Party Patriots LIVE radio show said, “this is a very encouraging step that takes the movement beyond the rally stage to an actual results driven effort”. He went on to say, “it’s important that those within the movement understand that we must take an active role in the electoral process and share best practices at every opportunity to enhance our effectiveness.”
Many of today’s participants met last night for a local premier of the movie ‘Generation Zero’, which explores the cultural roots of the global financial meltdown – beginning with the narcissism of the 1960’s, spreading like a virus through the self-indulgent 90’s, and exploding across the world in the present economic cataclysm.
A Central Florida public premier of ‘Generation Zero’ is currently being planned by the Tea Party Patriots LIVE crew.
