Rumors persist that former state Sen. Dan Webster, R-Winter Garden, is going to jump into the Republican primary to take on U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando.
Webster is keeping mum for the moment, but an email is circulating that appears to come from his wife — and is being posted on Facebook sites — that invites supporters to turn out tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Ocoee for a “major political announcement” from Webster on the District 8 congressional seat.
Webster would upend a packed GOP primary field that’s seen nearly a dozen conservatives vying to take on the fiery Grayson. This could prove most troublesome for Winter Park businessman Bruce O’Donoghue, a political unknown locally who nonetheless enjoys the backing of Washington GOP party brokers and some of the bigger local establishment Republicans, such as Toni Jennings and Mel Martinez. Webster could split those loyalties — and donors.
Here’s a copy of the email, which Dan Webster confirmed this afternoon came from a joint account of the senator and his wife, Sandy:
